An Exquisitely Carved Black Forest Shlef Cuckoo (Carved from one piece of wood)

We purcahsed this clock for our collection last week and thought we would share the clock with you. The clock is being showed in unrestored condition, as it came to us. We will update put the clock into the “museum” section of our website once it is finished… but for now you can have a sneak peek.

Magnificent is the only words that we can think of that describes this cuckoo clock. In all the years that we have been collecting Black Forest clocks this has to be one of the nicest carved examples we have ever seen.

The case of a cuckoo clock is normally constructed out of a wood box like housing, with the carvings applied to the case. This clock was designed and carved from a single block of walnut! The only exception to this is the dial/bezel assembly which is fastened to the case. The detail is unreal, everything in full relief, with the smallest details executed with precision.

The carving is so fantastic the photos do not do this clock justice, so we have uploaded a 4 minute video showing you an up close walk around of this magnificent clock.

The movement is a wood plate spring driven movement that runs for 50 hours on a winding.

We are always interested in developing our contacts with others who share in our passion for Black Forest horology. If you have an interest in the Black Forest clock please shoot us a message through our website at and say Hello.

Best,
